This is a Discontinued Rudder Kit left here for your reference. This is NOT a product you can buy!
The Classic Scupper Pro Rudder was typically found on Ocean Kayak models; Scupper Pro, Cabo tandem and the Sprinter.
Please see the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro Rudder Instructions. The part numbers listed in the instructions are searchable on this TopKayaker online store.
Use the search at the top of this page to find the parts listed in the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro Rudder Instructions.
Many of the original parts of the Scupper Pro Rudder Kit are available. Some of the original rudder parts for an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro are no longer available and quite unique. Substitutions are listed below.
The information on this page is best applied to Scupper Pro models, 2-Hatch and TW (tank well), made in the late 90s up to 2008. This page does not apply to the original Scupper Pro that did not have a molded rudder mount, made circa early to mid-1990s. Nor does this page apply to the Scupper Pro Classic, made in 2009, that does not have the needed hole in the rudder mount. This page does not apply to the Scupper Classic or the original Scupper. This page is somewhat applicable to some other Ocean Kayak models such as the Cabo tandem (Cabo Rudder Kit and Cabo Rudder Bracket) and Sprinter solo racing kayak. The Ocean Kayak Cabo Tandem Rudder Bracket is shown to the right.
You do not need to modify the kayak, beyond the original OK instructions, and it would not typically be suggested to do so. You only need to modify the SmartTrack Blade Housing.
The molded bracket on the stern of the Pro is too deep for the length of all the known rudder pins. The key concept here is to get the SmartTrack Blade Housing (any pin housing will do), remove the pin and replace it with a longer stainless steel shoulder bolt from hardware supply center. Be sure to select stainless steel. A partly threaded “shoulder bolt” is best.
The OK Pro rudder assembly (300386) is discontinued. Substitute with the Performance Blade Housing, Threaded Pin and Solo Foil Blade. The nylon sleeve (300077) is not needed. The Smart Track Blade Housings come with a Mini Clam Cleat (300099) and as such it is not needed.
Substitute the steering control line cords (300084) with Spectra Cord or custom outfit with Steel Rudder Cable, see also Screw and Thimble Kit.
The list indicates one Strap Eye (300048), aka Pad Eye, but you may need more than one. The Strap Eyes 10 Pack might be useful to have.
Substitute the self-adhesive strap eyes (300104) with Rudder Tube Clamps. These tube clamps can be used on the deck where the tubes exit the and in the cockpit where the tubes exit the hull. You will need to drill and fasten with mounting hardware.
Screws and Nuts, as mounting hardware, might be best sourced from a local hardware store, as stainless steel. The Self Tapping Screws (300036) might be replaced with Black Aluminum Rivets, and these may be useful to have anyway.
You may need to install the Sea Dog 6 in. Quarter Turn Deck Plate (aka Center Hatch) to gain access under the cockpit to install the steering lines. See: Installing a Viking Six-inch Hatch
The Rubber Rudder Grommets (300097) are best avoided, but worth having on hand. They might help you out if you have trouble passing the tubes through the hull. Get a pack just in case.
See the Ocean Kayak Rudder Installation Videos Part I and Part II to gain some insight, but not to be used as complete instructions.

All the components of the OK Pro rudder assembly (300386) have been discontinued by Ocean kayak. A substitution for the blade lifting line and 1/8 inch bungee is available in the Kayak Parts Category. The white nylon spacer and small washers might be sourced at a hardware store. The lager white washers, 1/8 inch thick, les than 3 inches in diameter, will be difficult to source (contact us as needed about that). The 1/4-20 bolt and nut, as well as a substitution for the long clevis pin should be easily sourced at a hardware store, just be sure to select stainless steel. The cotter pin can be substituted with the Rudder Pin Ring.
