Dagger 2006 Skeg Blade was made of 1/4 inch thick plastic. You will have to make your own! Use this link to purchase a sheet of Seaboard High Density Polyethylene Sheet, Matte Finish, 1/4 in. Thick, 12 in. Length x 36 in. Width, Black.

CNF-AXLE.jpgThe Top Photo shows a Dagger 2006 Skeg Kit for a Dagger Blackwater kayak, circa 2006 - 2010 (9800335). It may fit other kayaks originally outfitted with the same skeg, such as the Dagger Approach. The kit came with a 13 3/8 inches long plastic skeg with a one inch diameter hole, bungee tension line and lifting line with knob, a one inch by 1 ¼ inch aluminum tube (see Axle detail photo right), two 3 inch plastic disks, as well as 4-6 feet of 3/16 inch bungee cord used as retraction cord. The Axle was press fit into place (18500531). See the Dagger Approach Video to see this skeg in action.

Similar Discontinued Skeg Blades from Confluence, Dagger and Perception:

Confluence Skeg (17080020) is also discontinued. This skeg was common in the Perception CNF-17080020.jpgMontour and the Dagger Axis, circa 2009-2010. May have fit other Dagger and Perception brand kayaks outfitted with a  metal skeg, circa 2009, such as the Blackwater II 13.5 tandem kayak. Skeg was 15.5 inches long by 4.5 inches at the widest, all aluminum fin, lifting line hole on one end, pivot slot on other end. Original skegs may have been black or silver. Some models had a pivot pin press fit into place.

CNF-17080019.jpg

The Dagger Blackwater Skeg (17080019) now discontinued was common in kayaks made circa 2006 and before. It had Velcro strips on sides. This blade fit other Dagger kayaks, such as the Charleston and Echo. The Dagger Blackwater skeg had a hole (not a slot) drilled for the Dagger Skeg Pin Bolt (9810042). Some models may have had a skeg bolt press fit into place.

Both these metal skegs were the exact same size and shape. The difference is only in the pivot pin slot and bolt hole. It is assumed that gravity lowered the blade and the cord lifted it up into the skeg slot.

You will have to make your own! Find your local metal supply center and purchase Aluminum Plate Stock. Make a cardboard mock-up blade to test fit, shape and size. Transfer to aluminum plate. Cut, drill and file edges.

The 1/4 Inch Rudder Tube Clamps are often used as line guides on these skeg systems for the rope that raises and lowers the skeg blade.

Dagger Skeg Pin Bolt INFOThe Dagger Skeg Pin Bolt (9810042) is Now Available Again! A bolt (aka pivot-pin or binding post) for the Dagger Blackwater kayak outfitted with a drop down skeg. Bolt is 1.25 inches long + heads, .25-inch diameter. This might have fit other Dagger and Perception kayaks. This Skeg Pin Bolt was NOT universal and will not fit all kayaks. This bolt is threaded internally. The mate for the 1/4 inch diameter bolt is a small Phillips machine screw with a wider head. Some have reported that a shorter version binding post was used on their kayaks (circa 2001) See an example of Stainless Steel Binding Posts. It is recommended that you use Loc-Tite Blue to prevent loosening.

Skeg Hinge BracketDiscontinued: Skeg Hinge Bracket (3350-0200)common on Confluence kayaks: Wilderness Systems sea kayaks, circa 2000-2010, and some recreational kayaks such as the Dagger Axis and Perception Montour, as well as other similar kayaks outfitted with a this part. Original component in the TruTrak Skeg System. Made out of nylon plastic. One single 3/16 inch screw hole. ¼ in. diameter pivot bar. 1 7/8 in. long by ¾ in. wide by 5/8 in. deep, not including screw projection.

CNF-9810074.jpgThe Avatar Skeg Assembly was unique to the Perception Avatar sea kayak. It was comprised of: skeg blade, pivot housing, a threaded steel cable tube, 1/6 inch stainless steel cable (same as rudder cable), 3/16 inch bungee tensioner. Skeg box housing was 3 inches by 2.75 inches, 1.25 inches thick. Cable eyelet secures to skeg blade with a two-headed screw (Phillips on side of the blade, flat head on other). Other suggested Avatar retrofit parts: Confluence Skeg Lift Line (or pull bead) - Bungee Cord, 3/16 in., (sold by the foot) - Copper Ferrules, 2 pack - Skeg Line Cleat and Shrink Tube, 4 inches.

The skeg blade for the Dagger Crossover 12.5 (circa 2000, 2001 and 2003), and re-named as the Perception Enduro (circa 2004-2005), is no longer available. A 1/4-20 screw knob secured the skeg blade to the stern of the kayak. It was reversible, up or down, by removing the screw and turning over the blade. CNFSKEG
