How To Info: The cordage that makes up the Rudder rope kit needs to be cut to length. This will leave the end of the cord frayed and that will make it difficult to insert though small openings. If you simply melt the ends without thinking about the result, it will mushroom into a larger blob on the end further making threading into openings even more difficult.
You will gently melt the cut edge to prevent fraying and to create a point. The Rudder rope comes with two types of cordage:
Static line (not elastic): Melt the cut end and shape the end into point. This can be done by rolling it between a scissor blade and some other flat metal surface such as a putty knife.
Bungee cord (elastic): Shock cord (aka bungee) is two parts; rubber in the center and synthetic fiber outer sheaf. Gently roll back the synthetic fiber outer sheaf away from the rubber core, kind of like rolling down your knee socks on to your ankle. Clip away the exposed rubber bands. Roll up the synthetic fiber outer sheaf. Gently melt the synthetic fibers and form into a point, much like the static cord described above.
