Best used to restore the original seat back strap on the first version Wilderness Systems Tarpon (16 feet with two large strap over hatch covers). This is NOT a seat back, this is a TLC restoration parts kit for the strap portion of the back support. You Must have the original molded seat back as shown in the photo (this photo is a good example of the original configuration).
Kit Contents: 6 feet 1 inch web strap, 2 super locks, 2 one inch tri-glides, 2 rivets, 2 3/4 inch washers, 2 brass clips, 2 feet 1/4 inch bungee, 1 Open bungee cord hook and 1 1/4 inch cord lock.
Kit Instructions (Refer this page, a hard copy is NOT included. Use original seat as a guide.):
Drill out the rivets on the seat back. Cut the strap into three pieces, 2 long, one shorter. Melt rivet holes into one of the straps, be sure to double end over. Apply the super locks to doubled over ends. Rivet, with washers, the center strap, with super locks trapped on each end, to the seat back structure. Fasten the brass snaps, one on each strap, using the tri-glides. Thread the free end of the straps onto the super locks. Cut the old bungee cord off the seat back structure. Slip the new bungee cord through (you might need to fabricate a threading device, such as a twist of duct tape). Slip the collar onto the bungee cord. Slip the cord into the hook base. Slide the collar onto the hook base to engage the teeth (channel lock pliers can be useful). Slip the cord lock onto the bungee. Tie an overhand knot. Then apply the seat back posts into the cavities molded dimples behind the seating area. Fasten and adjust the bungee and hook. Fasten the brass clips to the strap eyes on the kayak and adjust the strap with the super locks. Trim the web strap and bungee as needed. Melt all the ends of strap and the outer jacket of the bungee, both ends, to prevent fraying.
