Best used as a replacement crossbar (foot brace, kneeling thwart or other purpose such as cut into seat dowels and cross bar hangers), part number 17030049 for Mad River canoes with wooden components. Assumed to be stern footbrace part, for use in Mad River ultralite canoes, made before 2013.
Mounting information and related mounting parts are not available at this time. This part could be used for multiple light duty applications for nearly any year, make and model of canoe.
Bars are approximately 30 inches long, 7/8 inch wide. A small number are available at 31 inches long. Mounting screw holes may, or may not, be drilled into the ends. The 30 inch bar will be the default shipment. Made of untreated wood, assumed to be ash. WOODCANOE OT-DOWEL

This wood canoe part was presented to us by the staff of Mad River in 2023. It was billed as a foot brace cross bar for ultralite canoes, use of this part was stopped in 2013. Further evidence indicates that this would be a kneeling thwart, common on some Mad Rivers canoes of the mid-1990s, such as the 1995 Special Edition Kevlar Explorer. See a Kneeling Thwart Video.
For use as a foot brace, kneeling thwart I would suggest that you get two of these. The 2nd cross bar can be cut into hangers as seen in the video at the link above. There may be some cases where the trimmed of sections of wood canoe seats could be used as hangers. We do not have specific plans for install or stainless steel mounting hardware. It is strongly recommended NOT to drill below the water line.
A Kneeling Pad would be the ideal accessory to use with a kneeling thwart.
