A Rudder Rope Tension Line Kit common on much older kayaks, such as Wilderness Systems, Perception and Aquaterra kayaks from the 1990s, as well as other kayak brands with similar configurations. Comes with 3 feet of bungee cord, a bungee cord hook, a cable clamp and a cord lock.

See the Rudder Rope Configuration Diagram

Aquaterra-Perception: The cable clamp is secured near the cockpit with a rivet or screw. The bungee cord passes through the clamp. The cord lock is secured on the forward end of the bungee. Tie a knot on the forward end. The steel thimble can be replaced with new or substitute with the enclosed bungee hook. The steel thimble (new or old) can be secured to the new bungee with a hog ring or zip tie. This is secured on the aft end of the bungee. Fasten the hook to the loop end of rudder lifting rope (1/8 inch rope is common on Perceptions kayaks circa 21st century). Fine tune the bungee adjustment with the cord lock and trim excess bungee as needed. Classic Aquaterra kayaks (and some Perception kayaks circa year 2000) may be outfitted with rope that is the same as, or just slightly smaller in diameter to the 4mm Deck Rigging Line. Learn how to tie the Rudder Knot. You will also have to tie Triple Overhand KnotPerception and Aquaterra is shown in the Rudder Rope Configuration Diagram as a drawing.

Wilderness Systems: The cable clamp is secured near the cockpit with a rivet or screw. The bungee cord passes through the clamp. The cord lock is secured on the forward end of the bungee. Tie a knot on the forward end. The bungee hook is secured on the aft end of the bungee. Fasten the hook to the loop end of rudder lifting rope. Fine tune the bungee adjustment with the cord lock and trim excess bungee as needed. Use of the cleat on the side of the kayak is optional. Learn how to tie the Rudder Knot. You will also have to tie Triple Overhand Knot. Wilderness Systems is shown in the Rudder Rope Configuration Diagram on the green kayak.
