Use this Fastener Boss Repair Kit to replace damaged nut inserts molded into the plastic kayak hulls for screws that secure common deck fitting onto locations that hard to reach inside. Comes with two each (10-24); Jack Nuts, 3/4 inch Pan Head Screws, 3/4 inch Flat Head Screws, 1 inch Flat Head Screws, 10-32 Neoback Washers, 5/8 inch Rubber Washers, 1/4x1/2 inch Rubber Washers and just one JNT1100 Wrench, with detailed instructions.

You may be wondering about nuts and inside access…

If the hardware can be easily accessed from inside the kayak, through an open hatch or cockpit, we can expect a nut inside the hull that will need to held with a wrench. The screw, on the outside, will be turned with a Phillips head screwdriver. Look for nuts inside your kayak with as light and hand mirror. The screw hole will be open through to the entire inside space and would leak if left open.

If there is NO inside access the nuts are molded into the hull plastic. A wrench inside will NOT be needed. If you look inside the kayak you will see a pimple, or nipple like molding around the nut, but you not see the nut, it is covered in plastic. A nut-sert is similar to cup threaded on the inside for a screw. Nut-serts do not leak.

To prepare for screw removal apply some penetrating oil, such as PB Blaster Penetrating Oil in advance, particularly if exposed to salt water. Penetrating oil loosens corroded screws and nuts. Apply and repeat the application several times.
