Wear your life vest each and every time you are out on the water. Get a snug fitting vest that does not ride-up around your neck if in the water. (Test this with a friend pulling up on your shoulder straps or take a swim.) Size selection is similar to t-shirt size. Some life vests have chest sizes published for fit selection.
