The Foot Control Rails are NOT included in the kit but are in your older model Dirigo Tandem, circa 2007-2013, already (as well as many other older kayaks including those by Ocean Kayak and Necky).
If your Dirigo Tandem kayak, made circa 2013-2018, is outfitted with Support Track Foot Braces, or the Deluxe Glide Track Foot Braces circa 2018 to date, you can simply remove the Orange Adjustment Handles and convert the existing foot pegs into foot controls. Simply take the control cables of the foot pegs in this kit and mount to your existing foot pegs.
The aluminum alloy used in the Old Town rudder assembly can take lots of abuse, bending, and re-bending before it breaks. With care this aluminum rudder should last a lifetime. When deployed you use the foot pedals to guide the kayak, turning the blade right or the left. A rudder is mostly used for keeping your boat on straight on track, especially in difficult conditions, such as wind and currents. It can help make your open water conditions safer and more enjoyable. You can easily engage and retract the rudder from the cockpit.
If necessary call Old Town customer service at 800-343-1555 to confirm the correct rudder. Have the serial number of your kayak handy. This kit is reported to fit some modern Necky tandem kayaks with the attention to the foot brace type (see above). Kit comes with detailed Dirigo 155 installation instructions.
