A neoprene hatch cover is used in combination with a hard outer cover, called a Double Cover Hatch. The neoprene cover stretches over the hatch opening and seals to a deeply undercut lip around the perimeter, much like a spray skirt seals the cockpit coaming of a sit-in-side kayak.
