Skeg

A skeg is a fixed blade that helps the kayak go strait. It may move up and down but does not turn side to side, nor is it for steering. Many sea kayaks and cross-over kayaks are outfitted with a drop down skeg. A fin is typically found on a surf kayak and does not move at all.
